The Q3 captures brilliant audio while giving the bonus of a video track. I’m using it primarily for my drum students, but have used it for a couple other tasks and it has worked quite well. The video is recorded as a Quicktime movie and is compatible with iMovie on my mac for editing. Very simple and simple to use.
Negatives: The video doesn’t look fantastic in low-light situations, but that’s to be expected with most cameras. Also, the batteries die pretty quick-so buy the AD14 power supply.

Finally a high quality digital recorder with the ease of the ancient casette recorders + video too! After spending the last three years researching digital recorders, buying and returning three of them, I found one that’s so simple I can pick it up after a month and still know how it works. The sound quality is fantastic, but know that the video quality is only honest compared to what’s available. I am a musician interested primarily in sound. The video is a bonus.

Like the Q3 zoom in all ways except two…it doesn’t seem to be loud enough during playback (maybe there is a different setting to right this?) and it erases all videos off the zoom after loading them on the computer (is there a way to save or delete the ones you wanna keep?).

This does just what it says it will – provides simple video and excellent sound recording for catching live performance and recording rehearsals and jam sessions. Any musician will find it useful. Sound quality fantastic, video OK. The distributor has yet to deliver the promised case for the product, and that has been over 30 days now so the hassle will be trying to get them to deliver on the promised package.

I did quite a bit of on-line research before purchasing this item. I am very pleased with the performance and usability of this product. Many reviews complain about the video resolution. Yes, it is low but very adequate for my purposes. Perhaps some day a higher res version will come out but expect the price the jump it bit.
Another complaint I heard about was about poor performance in low-light situations. I did not find this to be the case. As long as the 1.02 software update is loaded then it’s very adequate as far as I’m concerned.
Naturally the sound is outstanding and I don’t remember reading any reviews complaining about sound quality.
I’ve already used it to record some of my musician friends in performance and they have all been very pleased.
As the company states it’s a lot of audio with a bit of video. If you are musician looking for a simple to use video camera with fantastic sound to capture your gigs then I would highly recommend the Zoom Q3.
