| My first impressions of this small camcorder are very excellent. The size is perfect as it fits in your purse so it is available at all times. How many times have you thought I wish I had my camera. The battery last about one and a half hours,it is a infolithium battery, which means that you can see how much time you have left on it. Plus it will hold and retain its charge over time. The record time on sp is about 85 minutes. This camcorder will accept up to a 16 gig memory card. And, you can buy additional batteries with longer record time. The number of the batteries range between np-fh50 to np-fh100. The touch screen is simple and simple to use. It is powered up when the lcd screen is opened. The controls all have a excellent placement. The zoom is fantastic works quietly and quickly. The sound is also very excellent(I could hear every bite the cat ate,the screech of the rocking chair and even the tv which was turned low.)No it is not hd but the picture is very excellent. This camcorder has a quality build and a Carl Zeiss lens. Because of the features, you would expect this small beauty to be more expensive. So in the end you get quite a lot of bang for your buck.I wanted to add that with a 8 gig card you get an additionl 174 minutes(nearly 3 hrs. additional record time. The npfh50 battery gives you 3 hrs of additional charge. When this two items are added you have nearly 4 and a half hours of record time. Also, the camcorder allows you to choose to record on the internal memory or the memory stick. Plus Amazon has the best prices on the battery and memory card. |

I had a Sony CCD-FX-330 8mm that served me well, about 13 years before it started to have problems (leaking electrolytic capacitors on the main boards).
The SX-40 was my choice, no expensive hard disk to drain battery power,
all flash internal memory. added a 8gb card and no problems.
used it in Disney in June 2009, set to fireworks setting and it worked fantastic !
grab a monopod and that is all you need to take fantastic video.

| My wife and I absolutely like this camcorder. Its the first we've owned so we don't have anything to compare it to but I can't imagine starting with anything else! It's simple to use and takes fantastic quality video. Used it to film speakers at a youth convention in dark, light, huge rooms, small rooms and it worked fantastic in all environments! Highly recommended! |

Written by my daughter, whom received this camera for Christmas~
This is the best video camera I have ever handled. I was a small disappointed by its small size. It literally fits in a -largish - pocket, or your palm! But, when I started taking videos, this small camcorder spoke for itself. From about 50 feet away, I could zoom all the way up to the glass decorations on my door, and it was like I was standing right there. One of my favorite parts when I was taking videos for this Christmas was the zoom-microphone! I thought it was such a clean thought, and it really works! The only cons I have to say about it is that there is no pause button (you just stop the video, but it doesn't really matter..) and the pictures (not the video) are a small poor, but tolerable. You can see the pixels, but it still takes cute pictures anyway :) Everything looks very realistic. When you're taking a video, it's hard to notice any shaking at all unless you zoom up very far. I can't wait to make more videos as time goes on~ If you're considering this as a gift, get it! It's highly worth the money, and very simple to use! |
