For this price, you can't go incorrect, especially if you're really into video editing using your computer. Just make sure you've got firewire access, and you should be set. Still pictures aren't very excellent but (I reckon the digital picture resolution is 680,000 pixels max) but if you just save a still frame onto the memory stick while playing back video, the resolution isn't a problem. Overall, this is a perfect camera for the beginner (incredibly simple menus) or someone on a tight budget.
Fantastic Device for the Cost.

I bought this camcorder because we were on a budget just having a new baby and wanting to record some video of her growing up. I first was frightened because I didn't reckon the quality would be that excellent after it was uploaded to the internet. To my suprise the quality was phenominal!!! This is a fantastic camera for starters. I live in Houston and it snowed here on Christmas eve so I went out side and used the light and then I used the night vision to take pictures of the snow falling and let me say I was amazed at the quality. The only complaint I have is that the stabilazation is not that fantastic but then again I was using myself as the trypod so can't really complain. Practice will make perfect.
Also the camera comes with all the software and the s-cable, audio/video cables to hook up to the tv as well as a usb cable to connect to the computer and upload. You can use firewire also to transfer data but have to pay extra for the cable 20 something dollars.
I hope that this is is helpful.

Just bought this camcorder after A LOT of research...and couldn't be more pleased. It is very simple to use, and the manual is an simple read. The still pics are a small grainy...but we don't plot to use it for that purpose. The microphone picks up wonderful sound and the movie images are crisp and clean. Be careful, there is no memory stick included for still pictures, so you need to buy it. We have had no problems with the battery, although we will buy another one to have on hand for vacations, etc. If you're looking for a fantastic camera, at a fantastic price, this has it all!

Not only did this camera exceed my expectations, but after shopping around, got it for a fantastic price. The zoom and DIS are brilliant, and the power nite pix is really cool. Pictures onto the memory stick aren't anything special, but I wasn't buying a camcorder to take pictures anyway. The size is very manageable, and hooking it up via the USB was a snap. The menus become simple to use after you get use to them, and some of the 'quick' buttons let you access functions even quicker. The cassette insertion is really pretty clean, and assuming you're not retarded, you shouldn't have a problem.
Tons of Features for the price

I bought this at Sam's Club last year because it was the cheapest one left but small did I know how much I was really getting. I see people complain about hissing noises, terrible image, etc. but I have seen none of that(plus I bought the extended 2 yr warranty for peace of mind). As for features, the memory stick slot is a huge plus since they now come at over 1gig in size. I use video editing software on my PC to render videos directly from tape using the USB or the Firewire. It also has S-video connection for playback on my TV. I record mostly basketball games and I can have an entire game rendered as AVI or MPeg in under an hour. I bought a tape rewinder and two SB-L220 batteries (which lasts about 3.5 hours each and allows me to record up to 5-6 AAU basketball games in one day). I also bought a head cleaner which I use after recording about 12 games. I only use one type of MiniDV tapes. This camera has a really excellent zoom, plenty of onscreen options and you will be up and running in less than 10min. The only problem is switching tapes during recording because it has a bottom tape load and I use a tripod. Yep you are right I have to unclip the camera from the tripod, unscrew the base from the camera, replace the tape, screw on the base to the camera, and clip the camera back on the tripod during a 30sec time out. - Can't complain because because I now have a new skill to add to my resume:-)
